Why are Labrador Retrievers So Popular?

Labs were originally working dogs from Newfoundland who helped fishermen catch fish that had escaped from their nets as well as helping pull in nets. The original breed was crossbred with other Retrievers such as Setters and Spaniels to create the modern Labrador Retriever. Since then, Nevada Labradors have become widely known as dogs with a stable temperament that allows them to be used in a variety of activities ranging from rehabilitation to law enforcement. Although bred to be a working dog, the Lab is also the ideal companion dog, loyal and affectionate towards his human family. The Lab was first brought to America in the early part of the twentieth century and was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1917.

Cheasapeke Bay - good swimming companions, don't want to get out of the water! I don't think I would get another one, you only can own so many dogs at one time!
Labrador - happy dog, they sure shed alot!, again just not my style.
